What action Trump has taken on Indian goods so far?

Lets understand in detail about Trumps action on Indian goods export to US so far.

  • Donald Trump on 30th July, 2025 announced a reciprocal tariff on Indian goods exported to US. This action was taken to target the trade partners charging high tariffs on US goods.
  • On August 6, he further increased the tariff by 25% thus resulting in overall tariff of 50%. This additional 25% was added stating that India's purchase of Russian oil is not viewed in good taste as per US president Donald Trump office which he thinks indirectly supports Russian war effort in Ukraine. Either India should avoid such purchases or pay 50% tariff.

  • The Indian goverment bodies has strongly criticised and condemned the increase in tariff on basis of India purchasing oil from Russia.
  • The Indian government concludes Trump's action to be unfair, unreasonable and selective.
