I also faced it when the YouTube app became unresponsive on my mobile device. At first, it seemed to me that my internet connection has gone down. But when I opened other websites and browsed through other e-shopping platforms things worked fine.

 

Again I went to YouTube and ended up staring at blank screen. This time I was convinced that its not my wi-fi or internet issue but its problem with youtube.

 

Out of curiosity, I checked if YouTube is down. I got many threads over internet that showed its not only India but other parts of the world were impacted including United States. I tried to figure out more details about it which I will share with you all below.

Gist of the Outage

• The outage started around Oct 15, 2025 US evening time. It started impacting lot of people in short span of time when more and more issue was detected and reported.
• At peak, it is known so far that more 3, 50,000 users were impacted. This source came from media which relied on Downdetector data for the information.
• In India, users faced issue like app unresponsiveness, blank screen,  app crash etc. The same is recorded by Downdetector for India were thousands of user faced issue.
• The outage was acknowledged by YouTube were it said through official social media handle – ‘“If you’re not able to play videos on YouTube right now — we’re on it! Thanks for your patience.”
• In few hours, YouTube confirmed that they had resolved the issue and that services should now be functional again across all platforms.
• Here the root cause of this outage was not mentioned or informed by Youtube. But the thing is youtube is now back to its fully functional form. Thus people can relax and enjoy their favorite stuffs.

• Around 30% were about app issues
• Around 7% involved website / web interface issues

Since YouTube is quite popular worldwide so even a small disruption creates lots of noise, attention as well as frustration. But it must be noted that technical team of YouTube didn’t take long to solve the issue and restore the services which is commendable and deserve appreciation.
