Booting is the process of loading operating system into memory.

When you turn on the computer then the OS needs to be brought into computer's memory from hard disk. This process is strted by a program known as bootstrap loader.


Types of Booting

Two types of booting process is there. Let's look at each one of them.


1. Cold Booting

Cold booting is the process that is performed when computer system is started for the first time by turning on the power.



2. Warm Booting

Some times computer system hangs and stop responding. 

In this case warm booting is required.


You can perform warm booting by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL keys


When you do so computer starts from the beginning that is from Power On Self Test (POST) excluding RAM Test.
