Java Basics

Java History

Java was developed by James Gosling who worked as a part of Green Team in Sun Microsystems. Other people who were part of the team are Mike Sheridan and Patrick Naughton.

The java language project was started in 1991 and its first version was released in 1995.

It was intended to be used in digital devices such as set-top boxes at that time. But from then till today java has evolved to a great extent. Today java is widely used in internet programming, games, mobile development, e-business and more.

The language initially was named as ‘Oak’ but later was renamed to java. This language promised to be write once, run anywhere (WORA) kind of programming language.

Why java is write once run anywhere?
