Metropolitan Area Network


Metropolitan Area Network  helps interconnect computer systems and devices over a 'metropolitan' area such as city or its suburbs.

MAN is usually reserved for metropolitan areas where the city bridges its local area networks with a series of backbones making one large network for the entire city.

 

Metropolitan Area Network coverage area is larger than that covered by LAN and smaller than that covered by WAN.

 

You can simply remember the range as,

LAN<MAN<WAN

MAN can cover an area of nearly 100 KM in radius.

MAN is basically used to cover a town or city.

 

MAN is usually owned by a single organization or be shared resources used by severl organisations in same systems.
