SDLC Iterative Waterfall Model
Iterative waterfall model is an extension of classical waterfall model.
It overcomes the shortcoming of the classical waterfall model by providing the feedback path from a stage to its preceding stage.
It can be seen in the diagram given below.
Important points on iterative waterfall model
There is feedback path from every stage to its previous stage.
This feedback path of the iterative waterfall model allows to go back and correct the error commited in the previous phase.
But there is no feedback path to the feasibility study stage.Thus any error done at this stage cannot be corrected.
As we can go back stage and rework and make change thus this model also allows to accomadate any changes in the requirement at any time.
Shortcomings of iterative waterfall
Like waterfall model, this model also follow a rigid phase sequence. Rigidity is such that next phase can only start after the previous phase is totally complete.
Iterative waterfall model assumes that all the product requirement is clearly mentioned and the development is done on that basis. So it is not possible to use this model where the requirement is not clear at the beginning and customer is only able to provide a rough requirement.
